Apple trees are one of the nicest reflections of seasons in New England.
In the Spring, the apple trees are among the first to bloom, with their white blossoms surrounded by the pale green of the still new leaves.
By Summer, the buds have changed into crisp, new fruit, to be picked and munched on by every child who goes by.
By late Summer and early Autumn, an apple tree's branches need supporting props to help bear the weight of the heavy fruit.
Finally, in late Autumn, after the harvesters have finished their work, and families have completed their apple-picking weekend excursions, the remaining apples fall to the ground. There they sour a bit and give off the scent of early vinegar, a call to the bees inviting them to make one last gathering for their hives for the upcoming Winter.
The apple trees sleep for a while, regaining their strength, and bloom once again with the warmth of the next coming Spring.
